After reading Limes' post, I had a look. Yeah, looks like that queen might have been hurt from the start. Also, bad luck on that spider >.> Would have been terrible to watch

It was terrible, but kinda cool at the same time, fair play to the spider it was half the ants size

Just been out side, its 11pm and Ive found around 5 male winged ants on the floor, pretty cool, we;ve just had a big batch of rain again and this evening the rain died down, It appears that after each time it rains they send out more winged ants during the mating season, i have no ideas of the species of these males i have.

So here are the 2 differences, all 7 of the queens look like the one on the left, a reddish head and a black abdomen, the one on the right however had much more coloring, Any suggestions experts? Attachments:

Well Ill try, there in a test tube at the moment with a very low concentrate of honey in the water. I wish now i had never ordered 2 queens with 1-4 workers now and saved 36 eurro, they been in transit for over 2 weeks so i hope they will be fine. Anyways I have these 8 queens in test tubes at the mo, I have some more friends that seem to be getting more interested in keeping ants, as i never shut up about it, lol, so if they build a Formi... I said i would provide them with a queen each, also i been thinking to make a FaceBook page to try and help kindel more interest in this great hobby right here in south spain, and then offer hand made Formis and accessorys for a price

Anyways, any thoughts you people on the pic with the 2 queens and the colour difference?

that's a big difference in colour is the redder one also bigger if so it could be that the darker ones are myrmica rubra and the red one is manica rubida or similar species im not that good at identification so i wouldn't really know

I don't think they are myrimica, they lookore like Messor Barbarus Queens, also where I found them there is meant Messor Colony's + they look very similar to the tow Messor Barbarus Queens that have just arrived from the Quen Ant Shop

All the queens in the picture are Messor, and the same species. Messor barbarus is the most likely. Messor b. has many variations color-wise and that doesn't surprise me.
They are certainly not Myrmica.
