Hello. I 've placed my test-tube with my (Lasius Niger) queen and 4 workers in my formicarium 3 days ago but they don't seem to be leaving it. They've built a plug of dirt at the entrance between 0.5mm and 1cm wide. I've put some cut up worm and an almost dead moth near the entrance. I can't really tell, but i'm not sure there's a way through the dirt at the entrance. The test-tube's set up like this: dirt ants eggs and pupa cotton wool water, so they'll have enough water for now. The substrate they're on is some oven-baked moist compost. They also have access to a foraging tank that has a shallow layer of compost.
When should i start getting worried about them? What kinds of things might have gone wrong? How can i fix it?
I'm new to this, and i want my ants to be happy!

Hello Razboz, Reading your earlier thread, everything seems fine, Ants generally do this and they will move out when they feel necessary, they might feel threatened/or they are just comfy in the tube, they are only a small colony at this stage.
I wouldn't ever worry if they never moved, but I can of course see that I would be annoyed and so would you, so I would say leave them and if they haven't moved out in the space of 5 months, Be as gentle as you can and tip them out. Most antkeepers believe it is wrong to tip ants out, and generally so do I but aslong as you very gentle and make sure every egg goes with them it should be good. But of course, if you want your ants to be happy/comfy just leave them, they should move out when the time is right.
