I have caught six queens and they are all installed in test tubes with a bit of water behind cotton wool then bunged in with cotton wool to stop them escaping Now I'm a bit confused at what to do next as I have read conflicting advice. -They need to stay in the test tubes -The test tube should be connected to my slimline nests -The test tubes should be popped into a foraging box
Help!

I would keep them in the test tubes, until they have their first workers. Then once they have 10=25 workers you could put the in a foraging area, connected t a slim nest.

Thank you! What do the workers eat when they are in the test tube?

It depends if the queen is semi-calustral as she will need to forage if she is.

trying to find out what that means but I'm not having much luck Semi-claustral? When many species of ants' queens found their own colony they will burrow into mthe ground and seal themselves in. They then lay eggs and never com eout of that burrow but live off there own body reserves. This is known as claustral. Semi-claustral when when a queen creates a burrow, lays eggs bu tthen will leave the burrow to go looking for food and then return to the burrow each time.

My camera is missing, yes I think it's like the one on the left. I'll try to find a likeness online and post it.
Thanks again for taking the time to help me xx

Yes that looks like Lasius Flavus, however I'm not the best at ant identification

I also vote flavus, meaning she'll be fine left alone in her tube my mum mistook them for reds too!
