Which foods will a young Messor barbarus colony take?
I have a mix bag of seeds which I've been giving them the smallest seeds, grass seed ect but they just seem to store them
bit concerned the queen is not eating will she take sugar water as honey is a fail?
also I am losing workers started with three now have one first one got cut in half by the bigger one and this morning I found another dead...

From what I have heard they store them for the colder months, so they always have a steady food supply, then make ant bread , with the dead workers, what nest are they in? it could be poorly cleaned y tong nest, the dust might hurt them.

I can help here as I have a young colony of 9 and now know quite a bit about them! They don't take sugary food stuff's readily so don't worry, they are more 'The take it when they need it most' kind of colony, It's benificial to feed them alot of protein when they are small, mealworms baby crickets or large cricket legs are fine. They take grass and Dandelion seeds readily for colder months as Poortea rightly said . Hope you have a brilliant time keeping you messors!

My Messor colonies are mostly interested in insects, small seeds (niger, grass and dandelion) and ground nuts.
