Me and my 9 year old brother were looking through our front garden (Its much bigger then my back garden) and we think we have around 4 Lasius Niger colony's One near our house, one down by our pool and two on either side of our garage. So we think we have 4 colonys in our Front garden. We named them , 1, 2, 3, and 4.We were looking for more ants , and we saw ants - Lasius Niger , these were too far away from the others to be the same colony ,so we just found number 5 In our back garden we looked at some Concrete slabs, On one of slabs , we found Colony number 6 - I am sure they are Lasius Flavus , or possibly Lasius Umbratus I really don't know , We lifted up the Slab gently and found what must of been hundreds of workers , and some eggs, they quickly ran down their tunnels with them Next we found colonys 7 and 8, these Were Lasius Niger , and Almost certain Lasius Flavus They were living happily together Under a big Concrete slab.and last , Colony 9 , Lasius NIger living around a large log of rotting wood , I will post any things about the colonys in my garden here ,If I find anymore or if I see them hunting

Lasius Niger kill flavus's really easy, 2 weeks ago I turned under a rock an there were a few lasius flavus workers, and now thereare lasius Niger. In the summer I will collect lots of flavus and put them in the garden.

I read that Lasius Flavus win most of their battles with L.Niger because they often fight into the night and the LN get slower, but the LS sustain heavy losses

Yes, that is quite a good point, (made by whowever wrote it). But I guees during the day Niger would win, 1 on 1 I guees Niger would win 90% of times.

I just don't see how Lasius flavus and Niger would live together , If you guys said they don't tend to like each other , and Lasius Niger win in fights , I cant understand how they would be Crawling under they same concrete slab , and no one fighting? They seemed to get along very well , I saw not a single fight, There were more Yellow Ants then Lasius Niger?
