I have a colony of pheidole but a vary small amount of brood. How should I increase the queens laying rate?
Also is it possible to over feed a colony?

Heating helps I think. Other than that, if she is calm, dark, well fed and otherwise happy then she should get down to laying You can't over feed a colony unless they are in a Y-tong style nest which is too big. Then they tend to store food in chambers which mould. The workers will eat what they need otherwise.

The nest is relatively dry, would it still mold?

Depending on the food. I'd say yes as any moisture from the food could create condensation and damp.
