I am interested in buying a new ant farm as ive had so much fun with my last one. The only problem is my last ant farm has limitations. This is a picture of my current one, the problems i have with it are that once u put food in, it goes moldy and u cant take it out very easily. Also watering is really difficult because im using a pipette to squirt water in, but there are only two tiny holes and it goes into the nest and totaly messes it up. antstore.net/shop/product_info.php/info/p750_glass-basin-20x10x10-cm-with-10mms-drilling.html/XTCsid/fb37b66ed9ce1583511a9278d3ebd2bbAbove i have linked the tank which i want to buy. The reason i want to buy this tank is for the following reasons: It would be very easy to put food in It would be easy to take the food out once moldy! I can put in waterproof objects and place food ontop of it. I can use a spray bottle to dampen the soil. I can add one of those little water feeders. Its big enough for a nice L. Niger colony. The only disadvantage i can think about is that due to the fact its somewhat cube shaped, if the ants DONT dig a tunnel at the edge of the tank, i wont be able to see their amazing nest. Whats your guys opinion?

Would you be against buying the tank and a slimline farm? I think you can hook that one up to your ant world which mean you would only have to purchase that basin. Or you could create your own basin using a cheap tupperware container that has a tube connecting it to the Antworld. Anting does not have to be expensive, the more you spend generally the more aesthetically pleasing it is. Flavus

You could make a starter hole at the edge to encourage them to start digging there and put something to cover around the edges so they don't move away from the edge. But the only other choice is getting a different slim line farm.

I think creating a starter hole is a good idea.
I like having the slimline ones but its just so impractical.
You suggested I link the antworld to the basin, do you think its fine to just use the basin on its own? my ant farm goes on my desk so I don't have much space to have both.

The basin on it's own will be fine. I think that's what Myrm does. Just, like you said, put food on a bit of plastic to prevent a mold outbreak. Starter hole, just stick in a chopstick a couple of centimetres down (then pull it out )

Well it was my 19th birthday on the 13th so I got some money, i think im going to buy this tank now.
I'm going to buy some L. Niger ants. Should I order 25-50 workers or 50-100 ? for a basin of this size?

Do you not already have the ants?

I do, but its 1 queen and 2 workers. It would be very hard getting them out of their current ant world.
Also it would take months before the queens larvae developed so it would be very boring.
I'd rather just oder some new ants. But I'm not sure if i should get 25-50 or 50-100

I say 25-50. 50-100 ants would have a harder time moving in I believe.

good idea, even with my 2 worker ants they still manage to move a lot of sand.
