Haha that made me laugh. I have no experience with Messors but I have looked into getting them but everything I have seen has been very mixed opinions, some say they are easy and active, others struggle with them for no obvious, or single, reason. If I were you now, I would look at other peoples journals and gain as much first hand experience that way, it may mean checking other forums (sorry Myrm!) which I won't name but there are several fairly obvious ones. Also, I can read some German and there is some brilliant ant keeping information written in German which you can access too using google translate, it is one of the better translators even though it still comes out badly sometimes (when you know what it actually says in German )

Stevant has kept Messors the longest on the forum. I may have to go with my brain and ignore my heart by registering on another Ant forum,

No it's okay go with your heart I am hear to give you the advice you need: I don't know, mine went insane from dodgy fly food and killed eachother. I had disabed births and the queen gave up. Although I think some of the failure was partly due to the set up but not sure. I would say pm stender but he hasn't raised a colony he got them at 300 ants.

I think Antworld wouldn't fit. Formica fusca are supposed to be the size limit.

I have been keeping M.Barbarus for some time, here are some tips:
- While the colony is young only observe them every 2 weeks. This reduces stress ( Stress for this species is a common killer )
- Although many say that you dont need additional heating, from my expiriences, I would say it would be best. They develop much quicker and are less prone to deaths.
- Keep the nest itself fairly dry.
- Do not keep on changing the ants from here to there.
Hope this helps,
Animal Bin Lid.
