KK, well there is still not much to say about the Warship Nigers as the situation remains the same. About 20 workers, 1 healthy queen and about a dozen larvae which do not seem to be developing vary fast. I don’t get to see them every day despite the fact that they are in my locker as I often don’t really get the time to check up on them all the time. I do feed them as often as I can though.
And for the benefit of my awesome Dermy Bud; the bettles are doing fine but their oats bedding has got wet and is going vary mouldy. I need to sort this out if I can.

Still not much to report. I gave them a lacewing I found on the flight deck yesterday. The larvae number appear to be dwindling yet I am seeing no sign of cocoons. I hope they are not being eaten.

The warship niger now have cocoons and it would seem that there are fewer workers, though I haven't had a good look. The queen is doing well.
But it's the bettles that have shocked me more. I looked at their tub of oats and it's all turned into dark brown dust stuff, like fine soil. On top of the egg carton bits are loads of mealworms been born!
I need to clean them out but have no oats to give them. Does anybody else have any suggestions? I can get a small amount of breakfast cereals such as weetabix or cornflakes.

1 December 2012, SaturdayI reckon they would be good for bettles mmmmm weetabix Yay for baby bettles ;D >.< KK, so, imagine the scene: Your bettles have produced larvae (mealworms) and all the bettles are dead. The mealworms have turned all their oats to black smelly dust and the dust is so fine that it is getting out of the container and into my locker and even contaminating my ants test tube, which is open but in a small glass box with a lid with fine metal mesh. The dust has lined the ants' test tube and making it smelly. The ants are living in the test tube and consist of 15-20 workers, a dozen cocoons and 1 queen. Oh noes! What do I do, bin lids? This is what I did; First of all I removed all the mealworms out of their plastic container and throw away al the dust and dead bettles. I then washed it out. I had no oats so I have had to improvise with various other breakfast cereals, and then put the mealworms into it. Now for the ants. I put the cotton wool bung into the test tube to close it - all the ants were inside the tube. I then put the tube to one side and washed out their glass box. Once dry I then set my mind to cleaning the test tube. The dust is in a long pile reaching from the entrance right up to the cotton wool bung at the water end. I soaked a handkerchief in water, wrap it around a thin screwdriver and inserted it into the test tube as far as I dare (almost touching the queen) and started to gently turn the screwdriver so as to clean the tube. The ants went mad! The queen moved out of the way and the workers attacked the handkerchief. It only took a couple of goes to clean it out but it worked. I then replaced the place the tube back into the glass box. The ants are still running about looking for their enemy but they are settling down. The tube isn't spotlessly clean and the cotton wool behind which is water (where all the cocoons and queen are) is mouldy but it doesn't seem to bother them. At least their tube is a lot cleaner now.

Thank you AntBoy Well, I found a moth on the flight deck today so I gave it to my ants, and I gave them some mealworm too, oh and a piece of orange. I hope they are happy with their cleaner home.
