Spectrum, take a look at my journal for inspiration as to what to put into the foraging box. I went for a trek into the woods at the weekend, picked up sticks of varying diameter and worked it out after. Oh pebbles, pick up all the pebbles! They're good stops for positioning sticks.

I will take those ideas into consideration. Just got home to check on my ants, I can see they have placed quite a bit of sand from the foraging box onto the floor of the test tube where they are nesting. Any explanation for this. Also a little worried as it appears though I cannot be sure as it is difficult to tell but I think I see a dead worker. Inside the test tube a worker seems to be between the glass and the cotton and doesnt move nor react to the light. Whether she is just stuck or not I dont know but I can only presume she is dead. I'd upload a photo but I cant anything remotely close up to see as the picture quality is terrible.

theyre probably just either helping larvae to spin cocoons or making them selfs feel safer with the sand

Ah I see, I cant tell the difference between larvae and pupae. They're miniscule to the naked eye so I cant really tell what they are. Any ideas on a decent camera I can get for about £100 that is able to take a picture that I can actually see the ant with instead of a blur.

On closer inspection all I can see is a little black thing in the cotton wool with a particle of sand next to it. It seems too small to be an ant though. Time will tell. Perhaps I should make my own journal instead of posting this here.

Thanks

i don't exactly know im guessing you would type the name of your camera and add macro extension tubes for sale on the end and then just search from there i haven't bothered with the tubes because ive got a macro lens charlie might know a bit more and be a bit more helpful than me

Hows the quality of your camera with the macro lens. Does it shoot crystal clear photos that you can be proud of, or do you get the slight blur?
