Hey every one, Just wondering if any one knows of any good diagrams for an acrylic ant farm with foraging area? I was thinking around 30 x 30 x 3 cm. Wanting to keep Black-headed Sugar Ant - Camponotus nigriceps www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_ants/SugarAnt.htmI have a good acrylic guy so I can just give him sizes and he can cut and put together for me cheep. Thanks Megsez

Thanks Megsez Hi Megsez and welcome to the forum. Thank you for supporting us by joining. Those dimensions sound ideal for larger ants. If the ants are small you might want to consider reducing the gap between the two sheets of acrylic to about half what you quote.

Sorry for the crude sketch not a graphics guy. Ask me bout your car and I can help I am just going for the traditional style and i will have a Tupperware container with quick lock clips for the foraging area. The yellow tubes are fool of honey water. The farm will be all acrylic. If any one else has any other ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking if incorporating an LED strip to the top of the ant farm for the light and also put it on a timer for sunrise and sunset Thanks Megsez Attachments:

Hi Sehran. I think you were about 14 when you first emailed about ants, can't remember how long ago that was.
Can you not create a slide in/drop in lid?

Ok cool, Guessing your still in the navy if your gona be away for so long. Still navy police? Il keep discusion to ants on here from now Glad to see your still in to myrmecology more than ever Do you think there would be need for a LED light in the farm. Just thought may be able to replicate nature a bit more. It will get ambient light

LED light? If you wanted to mimc nature to the extent of certain lighting then a UV light would be better. Other than that there is nothing wrong with the lighting from the room the farm is located in.
