The last pictures the best looks quite like lemani so defiantly Formica the worker looks like fusca for colouration and posture and i know thats what you were most worried about

Formica lemani is very likely, though we can't see close enough to be sure. You should return these ants to the colony, as the queen will no longer do well with just one worker.

Well that kind of sucks...Yet I have never seen Lemani around the North-East of England before!

Really? They should be the most common Formica around there.

Really!? Well I've just caught another Formica Queen, It's the nuptial flights and I can tell you I've seen about 100+ queens (wingless) on the way to the shops. 95% Lasius Niger, so I captured 1 Formica and 1 Lasius.
