oh okay, do you think there will be any more myrmica rubra flights? i thought a saw a queen today but i didnt manage to catch it, im so annoyed at myself :/ i didnt find any more after that... there were more lasius niger and flavus flights today in Essex, i caught 4 more flavus queens to add to my collection, bringing me to a total of 10 and my little sister caught a niger queen and has named her Jennifer, maybe we'll make a journal about her

This probably won't help many people, but the mere logic of it definitely fitted with the logic of predicting nuptual flights.
I love in Newcastle, a coastal town in Australia. It's been Winter here, and as it's been ending, it's been getting less cold. On the first 'warm' day in 4 months, it was also quite breezy, luckily.
I went outside in the mid afternoon and BOOM! ants of all species flying around, landing on me and chilling out. I thought I was in heaven.
I have since come up with the following equation:
First warm day of Spring + Light breeze + Ant colonies that haven't had a flight in 4+ months = ANT EXPLOSION
