These ants were found in Jersey (English channel), and are about the size of Lasius Niger. They formed a large 2m trail over the concrete. Any idea what they are?

I am contemplating that it is lasius emarginatus

Looks that way. We're only really going on coloration, which is a shame, but it's likely that these ants would be present on that island.

They were very common all over the island, and suprisingly, Formica were common on the beach. ... Yeah, the quality isn't to great.

It certainly does look like Le, and they are found everywhere in the Channel Islands.
