Glad to hear you're using my tips. What I do is first put something like a sock on top of the lens to make sure the flash can't get directly to any part of the image. Then I hold the camera in my right hand and hold the paper with my left hand. I hold it at the right angle to reflect the flash onto the subject, above the lens. If your lens doesn't shadow your flash you don't need to do this, but that's what happened with your silhouette picture, isn't it?
