The one with huge mandibles is probably a beetle larva, though.

Thank you for clearing that up it looks much more fearsome than what it grows up to be. Does anyone know what the ant is carrying in the second picture?

"Daddy Long Legs" pretty much refers to any insect with, well, long legs. In the US, this is often a reference to spiders (which I think the myth refers to), though we do have plenty of crane flies as well. None of these have a venom powerful enough to kill anything but a small prey item, if they have venom at all (a crane fly does not.)

It's a common name, so daddy long-legs refers to so many things. A lot of spiders go by that name, and which prey on more venomous spiders. I think the myth arose from the misconception that to kill, say, a black widow, a daddy long-leg's venom had to be more potent. I think the brown recluse falls under the description of "daddy long-legs". I'm not sure if this spider exists in Britain, but its venom causes necrosis (death of flesh surrounding the bite). Stay away from those!

No Fraggs, it is not the most venomous insect in the world. As BSF explains that legend actually refers to a different insect known as Daddy-Long-Legs.
