The title explains it all. For every photograph of a wild ant that you post on this thread, you'll get an exalt from me. I'm very interested in the local ant fauna of Britain (and elsewhere.) If possible, please include an accurate measurement of the ant, the location where the ant was found (unless you are a bin-lid, although a very vague description like "southern UK" would be appreciated. Choosing not to mention the location will not effect your exalts.) and finally, a brief description of their nest. Please only photograph one ant per nest (unless you are lucky and find more than one caste). I'll obviously be none the wiser if you do submit multiple pictures of the same colony, so please try to be honest. You don't have to send a picture from every Lasius niger colony either; if you feel you've photographed the species already, consider submitting a photograph of this species again if there is something unusual going on (i.e. strange nesting habits, strange coloration or size, strange behavior.) Since there could potentially be a lot of photographs on this thread, please use ImageShack or a similar host, if you know how. The quality of the photograph doesn't matter, but try your best! If you have an ego like me that is strangely satisfied by points on an internet forum about ants, then this might be the ticket for you! I'm sure other people may also offer exalts for your contributions to myrmecology! ;D Formica subintegra (dealate queen), 10mm, found in Skowhegan, Maine, United States.

That Lasius above has a terrifying prey item. These pictures are pretty good so far.

I can correct you here.
That is a 'Leather Jacket' the larvae of the crane fly a.k.a Daddy long legs. Horrible things, may sound stupid but I'm freaked out about them, I know them so well yet hate them so much. I've got a phobia over Harvestman Spiders and Crane fly's.
I'd run a mile.

I can second what rubra has said, I fetch loads of these out of my lawn and feed them to my reptiles ;D
