I had a lone queen and it went up to 7 workers, I currently have one and all is good. Id reccomend them!

Get them with workers, let the ant store do the hard work of raising the first few workers, after the first few workers I think chances of survival are alot higher

I'm confused... Are we saying I would have to make sure I had plenty of workers or none? It really depends on how you want to start a new colony. If you want it started right from the beginning and are patient to wait for the first workers to hatch then just get a queen. If you want a quicker start then get workers too.
