From a newspaper report the other day:
Ants have a complex in-built navigation system as good as any Sat Nav, scientists said last night. It enables them to find the way back to their nest even in deserts. They take in landmarks, use the sun as a compass and COUNT their steps. It is believed that the bugs may also be guided by magnetic fields. Expert Dr Markus Knaden of Jena, Germany, said; "It's a question of life and death to find their nest."
