11 August 2009, Tuesday
Just fed these ants and there was one small worker showing an interest, but I also noticed she has a swollen gaster so I guess they are not too hungry at the moment.

15 August 2009, Saturday
There are 3 workers feeding from a piece of wax worm I placed in their tank a short while ago. This colony is still small in number with still small sized workers. They need to eat more!!! Perhaps I need to give them more cake! ;D

18 August 2009, TuesdayThere has been a little activity over the past few days in this tank, mainly the small workers out wandering around, but they have been eating from locust and cake.

22 August 2009, SaturdayAs mentioned in the Lasius flavus colony journal, I found three workers of this colony in the nesting box of the flavus colony! Lasius niger are by far the naughtiest ants in the world. They have been feeding a little over the past few days but nothing spectacular. This colony seems to be stuck in the nanitic phase.

27 August 2009, ThursdayI am thinking of renaming this species of ant from Lasius niger to Lasius naughtiusbinlidicus. I have had to move the neighbouring Lasius flavus ant farm as these ants keep constantly raiding it. Eevn as I type this there are a fw niger ants running around trying to find it again. They haven't been eating much in their own tank because they keep stealling food from the flavus tank. Well, hopefully this will put a stop to that. I am sure the queen of this colony has been possessed by flavus101.

Now that these ants can no longer get into the flavus tank, they seem to concentrate their efforts within their own foraging tank. They have shown some interest in some locust, fly and honey-water, but still in very small numbers. However, I know there is a lot of eggs in the nest so once they hatch into larvae perhaps I will see an increase in activity with the workers.

4 September 2009, Friday (w00t!)
Not much going on really in this colony over the past few days; just the occasional worker out foraging/eating.

19 September 2009, Saturday
I have not seen much of these ants recently, except for the odd forager. I took a peek inside and all seems well. Still loads of larvae and some cocoons present within the nest.

9 October 2009, Friday
A few workers feeding on the Ant Jelly I give them, but considering the amount of larvae present there is very little foraging. It is possible that the larvae have been fed on trophic eggs. Many of the larvae appear to have developed into cocoons, and I even saw the queen. ;D

18 October 2009, Sunday
There have been more frequent episodes of foraging over the past couple of weeks, but still only a small number of ants out and about. However, things seem to be looking up nigh, so they do.

These ants seem to be getting more active now, so I have decided to restart this journal.
