9 July 2010, Friday
Becoming ever so slightly more active and have a nice amount of brood in the chambers. Have also been foraging above ground quite often as I feed them more flies.

31 July 2010 Saturday
More eggs have been laid and there is evidence of cocoons having hatched (fragments dumped in the test tube on the side of the ant farm.
Queen is still hidden away but I have no concerns now as it is obvious she is still alive.

21 August 2010, Saturday
Please note that this will be my last update for this journal until Christmas time as tomorrow I will be working away from home.
This colony continues to grow albeit slowly and I am expecting the egg laying rate of this colony to slow even further due to the fact their fresh food intake will drop significantly whilst I am away and due to the winter approaching.

Hi LaSiUs BiN lId
They are doing okay but still very slow. I have never had much success with them. Now that I am away from home so much I am not expecting success this time.

I hope your ants live. I'm hoping to get a Aquarium and a harvester ant queen. I'm guessing a big aqarium for these little suckers. I'm currently studying a nearby anthill to look at their behaviors, which can be hard sometimes, for I don't won't to be stung. It won't be hard finding a queen. The breeding fights are up to a acre long in the country (texas US) in some places, so I wont have to go hunting, but I'll have to wait along time. But its going to be awesome having my own mini colony so I can watch them grow into an empire. ;D I wish good luck to your ants, and hope they live. TIP: I'm going to be growing a worm farm at the same time, so I won't have to find food, just incase you want to try, if you already hadn't.

13 November 2010, Saturday
Just took a peek at these ants not expecting to see much.
I didn't see any brood or the queen (she is well hidden away) but there were quite a number of very active workers.
Just fed them with some wax-worm but as they rarely forage above ground they have not found it yet.

Can you feed Flavus above Ground? :/ You can do but they never seem to quite grasp the idea that the food can be found aboveground. Often they don't bother looking above ground. The only way to do this, it seems, is to keep the "aboveground" bit in darkness too.

I recently got a colony a few weeks ago, they are still in their test tube. I find that they will still eat small things you put in there, but make sure they are kept in the dark while they are eating.

Gah! I wish these ants would eat. They never seem to find anything I give them. I'm going away in one week for 3-4 months so this is an important time for them to eat. Just gave them some cricket, wax-worm and chocolate. I can see some brood hidden in s chamber but cannot yet see what stage they are.
