We always suggest using a foraging box with the slim line ant farms. Basically just hook your slim line farm up to a tube and connect the tube to foraging box. With Basin farms you can go without the foraging area in most cases. Did you buy or make your farm? If bought can I have the model and where it was purchased? If you have tweezers then you may be able to remove it with that. However a wet q-tip will allow you to get the bread crumbs and if the dorito is crushed you can use it on that as well. You should do some reading on feeding L. niger colonies as I would not recommend feeding a dorito to a young colony. If you would like some links to threads that may be helpful as far as food goes please tell me and I will post them. Flavus

Thanks id love some advice for L. niger colonies. I seem to have an idea in my head that you can mix sugar+water together and feed them that, is that completely false? The ant farm I bought was a really cheap one, I didnt want to spend too much. antsuk.com/ant-world-ant-habitatBut now I really like it, I want to spend more money and get a proper tank for the ants. I want to get a basin but im worried that I will never see the ant tunnels as its a cube an not two flat sheets. Whats your opinion on antsuk.com/ant-starter-set-b ?

Hi Sainter, and welcome to the forum, it's good to have you with us.
The proplem with the canned insects is that they are vary dry and have no juices in them. Ants eat the juices of a kill rather than the flesh itself (though the larvae eat the flesh) so that may be why they buried them without eating them.

Welcome to the forum sainter!
As Myrm just pointed out dried insects are not the best as most, if not all, have lost their ''yummy juices''.
You can buy a tub live meal worms (from the pet shop) for about £2 and there will be around 50 - 100. They are easy to keep alive, just feed them oats, vegetable matter etc... . They should last you for quite a long time.
Thanks,
Animal Bin Lid.

My dilema is trying to find a food ants will eat that i can hide so no one will see it! You say they like the juices, im just guessing here but could i get a piece of chicken or something and mush it up with water? would that be okay?
