Another tip I can add to Animal Bin Lids is make sure they have a source of water in the foraging area. A wet cotton ball will do. If you notice that workers just seem to hang out at the cotton ball then you should add a little moisture to the nest. Flavus

Right, thankyou Animal. I dont think I will have heating, but I may put the Test tube in my Airing cupboard which is at 27 degres usually until the Queen has a few Workers

My Queen is here!! She was trying to lay Eggs, no workers. Will 20 - 25 degrees be Okay?

Good. I hope I can be the first MANF member outside of mainland Europe to raise a sucsesful colony (Sorry Guys) from a Queen with no brood (Cant see any, they are probably hidden)

I think it's the species as myrms umbratus and first nigers were sucessful

I thought Myrm bought his umbatus as a small colony.

I thought Myrm bought his umbatus as a small colony. I did. They came as a Lasius umbratus queen with about 30 Lasius niger workers. There were no L. umbratus workers present at the time.
