My Lasius niger queen with about 15 workers arrived from AntsUK yesterday I have the small starter set from them and I put the test tube in the feeding tank as it says on their website. The queen had a bit of a wander around and then retired back into the test tube. Since then the ants have been deposited sand grains at the entrance to it, do you think they are going to set up in the test tube rather than finding the nesting tank at the other end of the plastic tubing?

My ants have done the same thing currently. They just like that test tube way too much! However, the workers haven't yet really looked around all that much and havent 'found' the proper nest in my set-up, so I'm hoping in time they decide to move her and her eggs there. I hope

they will proberbly stay in the tube for a while as they are more familiar with it. and them building a wall/ blockade is perfectly normal, they are just making themselfs more secure
