Good news I think. The eggs are growing bigger and queen has laid a new batch of eggs. I am guessing that the egg's are growing they must be fertile? I will post a pic tonight if i get a chance

I think so. If you're right your eggs will have grown MUCH faster than mine!
How big is she again? If she's substantially bigger than mine (who is very tiny, about 4-5mm) you might have a Meat Ant queen on your hands (Iridomyrmex purpereus if I remember right)

Just saw the original pic- definitely not a meat ant, silly me! However, I do envy you for having eggs that have matured so much more quickly!

Hey Meg if you've already got a Canon DSLR you can get macro extension tubes to help make any lens you have into a macro lens. I wrote a guide about it here: www.myrm.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=antpics&thread=5683&page=1#55288. It's MUCH cheaper to getting a macro lens and can help you on your way into macro photography for cheaper Also YES! Larvae! Also, after looking at that picture I get the feeling your queen is even smaller than mine- I'm thinking you might actually have ochetellus glaber like you originally thought!

Yes, certainly larvae there. Interesting to see she still has her wings.

it certainly is interesting, I didn't notice that. Maybe she's not hungry enough to tear them off and eat them

Thanks will have to check it out have wanted to do macro for a while. I have had a few queens with wings. I wonder if they are captured soon after there flight they get stressed and do not do it?

Strange. I've had a queen who kept her wing a while, she was unfertilised. Obviously that's not guaranteed as your images prove! Interesting. I thought that queens usually ate their wings for sustenance. Maybe she was well fed beforehand?

Ok up date, Had not checked the queen for a few days as i have been so busy with other things. Checked her last night and low and behold there are about 5 worker ants I have placed the ticktack container in a Tupper were container with some fresh water and some sugar for them to check out. One worker was out exploring last night but will check them today. The container is just temporary until i get a better house for them sorted. Will post some picks and start a journal.
