I'm kind of lucky being where I am, as almost all my dream species are close by.
Pheidole, Pogonomyrmex and Forelius are in my top five favorite species. Very common and pretty easy to get.
The only ant not around here (but supposedly in the region, 3 hours away)...are Acromyrmex, which Leafcutters are my top one favorite ant. I however would probably not want to raise them...they sound too hard to keep. Commonly are called the hardest species to raise.

If money, time and effort were no object, it would have to be bullet ants Paraponera clavata. They are HUGE

You know after my trip to Thailand, I really want to keep a colony of weaver ants in a small ficus plant. I figure if this time next year I still have my rubra, rubidia and carpenters all alive I'm going to see about getting some if antstore ever restock them. They were so fascinating! I reckno on a plant kept in a tray of water, inside a large vivarium with heaters and lights should do well!!

I envy all of you so much for being able to purchase ants. There seems to be no such store here, and importing isn't allowed by national law From what I've seen, my dream species would be one of the enormous colony species, atta or the army ants Dorylus. I would love to see a colony like that reach maturity in an enormous living area.

Limes, he respects and understands the law, and the risks of importing. He wasnt saying he will buy them, just if he could, he would.
