It will be no good for the larvae, as they need solid food, but hopefully trophic eggs will be laid for them.

It will be no good for the larvae, as they need solid food. That's not quite correct, Billy Bin Lid. Larvae do not need solid food but they are the only members of the colony that eat solid food. They are given solid food by the workers as it is more convenient for them to do that. If a worker feeds the larvae solely by trophyllaxis then it ties up that worker for a period of time, whereas if the worker dumps some solid food in front of the larvae then the worker can go off and forage elsewhere whilst the larvae is eating. As long as the larvae gets the nurtients it requires for development it doesn't matter whether it is by trophyllaxis or solid food eating.

The first batch I used did not work. However I experimented and found I had to add another teaspoon to the solution. The Solenopsis were not overjoyed with it but this colony seems to be a picky eater. I am happy that I saw them feeding though as I was getting worried. Here is an exalt Billy. Flavus

Thanks Flavus. I'm glad your colony is now taking food.

I wonder if an ant colony could thrive off a completely vegetarian diet.

No, the larvae need protein Billy. If you used supplements in the food that might work. I would not suggest it though as ants have been omnivorous for millions of years. Flavus

I know they need protein, I didn't say vegan. There's protein in egg, and if they need insect protein you can give them insect egg. I might try that.

Sorry, I did not realize there was a difference. Being a complete and total omnivore I am. Flavus

A vegetarian is someone who doesn't eat meat. A vegan is someone who doesn't eat any animal products.

And a peskitarian can eat fish no meat.

You're almost right. Anyone can eat fish, but not everyone does. A peskitarian is someone who doesn't eat mammals or birds but does eat fish. Sorry for being pedantic.
